Mcvicar cottage

 Welcome to the McVicar Cottage! Charming and historic, this quaint cottage nestled in the woods and among the boulders offers a romantic retreat and a place of profound peace and respite. In the early 1930’s, Alyce MacVicar’s brother built this stacked stone one bedroom just in time for her to open one of the first girls camps on Lookout Mountain, making this one of the oldest cabins in Mentone. The interior and exterior were completely restored in 2022, but the original character and stone walls remain.  

Built atop a massive boulder, this gives the cottage a unique experience of stepping into a fairytale. The restored interior provides all the luxuries of the modern world, complete with a fully stocked kitchen, dishwasher, television, wifi, air conditioning, and washer/dryer.  

This space entices you back to nature, with warm and inviting outdoor spaces that allow you to rest in comfort underneath a rich canopy of old growth trees. In the spring and fall, the rains bring a stream to life next to the back deck. Magical ghost fireflies light up the forest floor in springtime and summer and a rich tapestry of color in the fall create a unique year round experience from your porch. It’s an easy hike along the river to reach the Desoto State Park trail system. Your stay will replenish and restore the soul and leave you with the feeling of being graced by the love of nature.
